The Hours - Ali in the Jungle

I love The Hours. They have a sound that reeks of Brit Pop and which makes me feel nostalgic yet excited for their freshness. Their lyrics are surprisingly heavy and masked by the catchy melodies.

Pardon my silly wordiness. I've been writing up another interview so I'm feeling loquacious.

Give them a go. They're on Damien Hirst's new record label so I'm hoping they keep pumping out videos as bananas as the one above.

Ooooh la la I'm in love.

David Pajo - Where Eagles Dare

David Pajo (aka Papa M) is releasing a new album called Scream With Me and it's a Misfits cover album. I'm intrigued to hear his interpretation...

make believe

Today I'm pretending I live in this house, which in real life belongs to Antoine, a furniture maker.

Dananananakroid - Black Wax

Ok. I may love Dananananakroid first and foremost because of their name.

But now they just made a glitter party video and the deal is sealed.

all in the timing

flip

This guy has a street performance where he gets five or six people to line up, bent over, and he FLIPS OVER THEM ALL. He's like the Evel Knievel of acrobats.

I shot this on film and was sooooo excited to get back the result. I had no idea if I'd caught him mid-air or what I would get at all.

Won the lottery on this one.

conversations on equations

I saw the above by Craig Damraurer on Made in England and it reminded me of the pep talk I got last night:

Me: OOOOH LOOK AT THE SKY!!! THAT'S BANANAS!!

S: I think it's God trying to talk to people

M: But why not to meeeeee???!! Doesn't he know that I've cried a bunch in the last week and I could just use a nice word or two?

S: But there's nothing in the Bible about spreadsheets...

M: Hey. The ten commandments are in tablet form.

S: You're going to blog this aren't you.

And thus a story of yore was retold.

Japanese Motors

On the back of a sold-out tour with Modest Mouse, the
boys from Japanese Motors rocked into Austin for SXSW.
Meredith Bonner caught up with Alex Knost, Andrew
Atkinson, and Nick Soderberg during a crazy schedule.
Sadly, guitarist Nolan Hall was still out driving
around in the van, looking for a parking spot.

My latest interview for Urban Outfitters.

tweebots and ferretbunny

So this is making the rounds this morning like wildfire:

An experiment by Kacie Kinzer, a student at the NY Tisch school of the arts, has this little bot going around NYC. Occasionally it runs into obstacles or may need directions and it asks passers by for help. The result is the unexpected kindness of the strangers.

But, being the baby that I am, the highlight for me has been the discovery of FERRETBUNNY:

Anything with a silly voice is an instant winner for me. And I'm still riding the Easter chocolate high.

Cream Egg

The day for chocolate overload is here. Is it just me, or does the chocolate in easter eggs taste better than aaaaany other chocolate?

The changing rooms in the American Apparel in Austin were very cool so I thought I'd make myself into a manequin in their vintage tops.

The walls are corrugated plastic. NICE

cupcake showdown

Austin has no shortage of cupcake joints so in the aim to be fair and good Sarah and I sampled a number of them.

1. Hey Cupcake. The cupcakes live in an AIRSTREAM just like we did. And for FREE you can get icing shot into the middle of your cupcake (unless of course they have sold out of said icing, which is technically impossible as you can't sell something free, so DO NOT LIE TO US HEY CUPCAKE JUST GIVE US MORE SUGARY ICING BECAUSE IT IS AMAZING AND I MUST HAVE MORE).

itaste

See, I point to the icing. It is cream cheesy and delicious, though this was around 2am so judgment is less sound...

But the inspection was thorough and I made sure that other people eating them enjoyed them too:

We were advised, however, that there was another mecca for cupcakes in Austin, a little off the beaten path, where something lemony and sugary and CUPCAKEY lived...

So off we went, actually using google maps, and eventually...

cup cakes

We done found SUGAR MAMAS BAKESHOP

cupcakes bars

And lo the cupcakes were good....

Behold, the Pinup:

the pinup

There was another cupcake AND a shot of cream cheese icing but we gobbled those up too fast for me to get photos...

There were SO MANY good choices that I'll admit we had ever so slightly sourpuss faces knowing that having any more would make us ill..

Cupcakes are magic. I'm daydreaming now...

(BTW - there are no knives at Sugar Mamas but there are spoons. If you have knives on the premises then you have to pay sales tax... WACKADOO)
