IT'S FINALLY WINTER

A Moment's Peace for Mary Christa O'Keefe from Beau Lark on Vimeo.

So, it snowed here for like 10 minutes, I'm over excited and want to make miniature snow angels.

PLEASE CAN WE HAVE REAL SNOW?!!!

so. I take a lot of pictures of the sky. A LOT. But it's so pretty... It's the chief reason I cannot bear to move into an apartment I can actually afford.

war on drugs - needle in your eye

this video was put together by my friend Mark Shoneveld. he says:

The video is made entirely of clips from the Prelinger Archive of Moving Images at the fantastic resource, archive.org. So thanks to them for providing such an amazing service, and such great quality Public Domain films. Long live remix culture!

Adam, of War on Drugs, is a talented guy and the I was glad to see this album, Wagonwheel Blues make plenty of people's Best of 2008 lists.

NYE roundup

So, I'm late on posting about NYE. But I don't care. I had a fancy APC dress on that night so I'm putting it up regardless. It's my FutureGirl Dress. SHINY

Then Sarah and I went to Transit for Making Time. It was bananas. BA-NA-NAS:

Transit's Puck

I don't know what that horse was doing there but he danced pretty well. Please notice in his hand - Sparks. Now dead. And I never got to have one. Shucks.

Sarah did Ladyhawke makeup for herself:

drink holder

I think that's technically hipster warpaint.

And she gave me glitter:

glitterface

On any given day her purse is riddled with glitter and you're likely to catch some off her. She's like a fairy.

I took that picture at whatever time it was I got home and was about to take it all off before I realised we really didn't take any pictures all night. I was also hyper and bored. Self portraits were inevitable.

benoit pioulard - idyll

i've decided to focus this week on music videos that have used archival footage in music videos. i think the old film makes these videos particularly emotive and nostalgic for something that you've actually no memory for.

or it could just be that i have a crush on benoit...

Chris Scarborough

clicking around twenty2wo blog i came across the work of Chris Scarborough. his illustrations are amazing, but his photography is inspiring and creepy all in one fell swoop. i'll be tracking him down to buy some work soon for sure.

the endless summer in your laugh

i have a thing for videos that use archival footage and this new one from m.ward is simple but effective. the font choice for the lyrics is a little... iffy, but seeing "daa da duuum da dum" all written out somehow makes this a little less melancholy.

M.Ward's new album Hold Time is out Feb 17th from Merge

dutchess and the duke

i love this pair and the way the narrative of their song is portrayed in this video. especially the pinata. pinatas bring nothing but happiness and the occasional bopped head, which is something better than happiness if you ask me.

sunday worship

superheros

walt wit

the eagles keep raging, so sunday continues to be about a good walt wit, amazing pumpernickel grilled cheese and lots of shouting at the Green Rock Tavern in Port Richmond

i'm going to have to find out what is with all the superhero figurines they have before the (post)season is up...

i love these old school toys the most. all the baby einstein stuff and the leapfrog things give me the heebie jeebies. i'm going to be trailing ebay for the stuff i grew up with once i've got my own sprogs.

this. feels. good

LOVE LOVE LOVING Tom Vek's nothing but green lights.

i've been on a yoga binge this week and i'm feeling this big time. bring it on 2009. "i've got my foot in the door, so to speak"

can we have Christmas again now please?

because I'd quite like these for my wall:

from M+E. "because you're too old to buy art at ikea"

it's the TRUTH

ok thanks.

bringing the sun to me

i was starting this post with some crazy, poetic review of music i've listened to in the last year and why i'm getting more into afro-pop. but i'm cutting myself off.

it's upbeat, feel good, sunny music. that's all i should have to say about it.

along with Esau Mwamwaya, i've been really into the Bembeya Jazz National and El Guincho, who I put on my year end list of best albums for Urban Outfitters

can i just say, for a fact, it would be nice if the summer would come back now.

can someone make that happen? i'll be best friends forever...

photobooth

obviously, i didn't take these pictures. but sarah and i are total photobooth addicts so i'm hoping to post a bunch more.

and just so as not to disappoint, they are all this bad.

the "themes" left to right are "faces kids make when you tell them to smile for the picture", "pose pretty like" and "hey look. no look. do you like this, does it look good, oh crap it took a picture"
