and I paid money for this?
I want to start a feature of the disappointing shit I've paid money for
the toast I get daily will likely be featured heavily. Because it's gross. And yet I still buy it.
WTF.

J Smith Esq
I have a friend's wedding in the summer and when usually I panic about the headwear, as it is by far my favourite part about dressing for the day, this time I have a plan of attack care of Justin Smith.
Now I just need to save the $1000 to make it happen....

hot dogs cold beer
I effing love hot dogs. I LOVE THEM. It's a point of notoriety. Gah hot dogs.
So when in Austin we went to Frank's "by mistake out of desperation" I was a happy happy girl.
The food was scrummy and super inexpensive, the wait staff was amazing and the venue is adorable.
It is a very good thing that there's nothing like that closer to home - my hot dog rationing system would be out the window...
But please note, we may have had a hot dog fest, splitting two between us (the slaw dog was AMAZING and the Chicago style was no loser either), they were in fact veggie dogs AND, as you can see below, we got a salad too. With grits croutons.... waaaaaaaaah
forgive me I am only a maid
I love Laura Marling and her new album is extremely good. I always regret not seeing her play here in Philadelphia two years ago at the Church. Her lyrics and her sensibility are incredibly touching.
stream I Speak Because I Can at the Times Online
her newest video is amazing and I'm anxiously waiting to find a version that I can embed.... in the meantime it's shown on her own site here
I'm dying to know who created her album art

sometimes it's just as good for something to be delicious for the eyes...
thinking of buying this ginger syrup from Morris Kitchen just to be a tincture for the belly and a pretty thing for my larder

excited to recap on the 34 bands I saw over the four days, the umpteen adventures and the giant biker dude with the teeny tiny kitty cat
in the meantime this is the bit of Florida I got to see on the way down

Sally Mann
I fell in love with Sally Mann after I stumbled upon her work not long ago
she balances technique with subject to create an image that teeters on the edge of disturbing but you can still see the love for her subjects beneath it
having largely used her family in the portraits she says "the things that are close to you are the things you photograph the best, and unless you photograph what you love you're not going to make good art"
her recent collection of portraits of her husband in Proud Flesh are a beautiful study in intimacy.
