shades of grey
I've been working in B&W film a lot lately. It feels appropriate if only because winter will NEVER END. Today's weather - partially sunny. PARTIALLY SUNNY??!! It's like the weather man wasn't brave enough to say cloudy.
It is cloudy. Again.
This time in two weeks I will be in Texas. Sunshine. Please. Sun.

Little Joy - No One's Better Sake
This video makes me happy. It feels kind of like Sesame Street for grown ups. I'm going to put it out there and say that this would have actually been improved by another cameo - Snuffleupagus. I just spell checked that.
And this cracks me up:
Rocksteady meets PBS in the debut music video for LITTLE JOY (Fabrizio Moretti of the The Strokes, Rodrigo Amarante of Los Hermanos and Binki Shapiro) complete with split-screen effects from the heyday of 1970s TV. Special guest appearances by Nick Valensi (The Strokes), Devendra Banhart and Greg Rogrove (Megapuss) and more. If you listen to the Jonas Brothers then these names mean absolutely nothing to you. The name 'Megapuss' alone probably makes you feel weird. It makes me feel weird. Get your retro on y'all.

Human Highway - The Sound
One of my favourite songs of last year now has an amazing, creepy video. Yay!
New York 2008
New York 2008 from Vicente Sahuc on Vimeo.
I had a a long chat the other day about how good Zooropa was (we're all entitled to an opinion) after having not thought about that album in FOREVER.
And then coincidentally came across this video today via Tak Tak's playground.
1. This makes me excited to make some videos from SXSW. We have basically opted to stay in a set - an airstream trailer. It's all about the experience.
2. Remember how good the original video is?
Or maybe I'm tainted given the first time I heard this album I was a delicate teenager living in Bremen, Germany with no friends in the country. And the only "English" channels on TV were CNN and MTV.
Aaaah. Good times.

Sam Taylor-Wood

I have admired Sam Taylor-Wood's work for many years. It's confrontational and discomforting and abrasive. She engages you and challenges you in one movement.
From her interview with the Guardian:
"The thing I find hardest to do is just to clear my head. My brain, to paraphrase David Bowie, is like a warehouse, and there's no room to spare."

Star of Africa
One of my favourite stories. It was then made into nine different stones used in the British Crown Jewels and can be pieced together in different ways. Transformers diamonds.
